Ninth-seed Solomiya Zinko is the only interloper in the final eight of the girls’ Under-18 Rogers Junior Nationals in Toronto.
Ontario’s Zinko defeated Quebec’s Catherine Parenteau-St-Antoine 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 in the round of 16 on at the Mayfair Parkway Racquet ClubTuesday. Parenteau-St-Antoine took out eighth-seeded Ontarian Elianne Douglas-Miron in Monday’s first round. Zinko will play fourth-seed Amy He of Ontario in Wednesday’s quarter-finals after He defeated Ontario’s Iryna Kostirko 6-3, 6-0 in Tuesday’s round of 16.
At the top of the draw, top-seed Francoise Abanda of Quebec had no trouble with unseeded Ontarian Nada Marjanovic, winning 6-4, 6-0 in the round of 16 on Tuesday. Abanda takes on fifth-seeded Ontarian Evangeline Repic in Wednesday’s quarters after Repic defeated unseeded Anastasia Burobina of Ontario 6-1, 6-4 on Tuesday.
Second-seed Kimberley-Ann Surin of Quebec defeated Ontario’s Laura MacMullin 6-1, 6-4 on Tuesday and plays Erin Routliffe, the sixth-seed from Ontario, in Wednesday’s quarters. Routliffe, the U16 champion from a week ago in Montreal, defeated Alberta champion Jena Cheng 6-3, 6-3 in Tuesday’s round of 16.
Third-seed Catherine Leduc of Quebec defeated Quebec’s Aissa Muamba 6-4, 6-2 on Tuesday while seventh-seed Nikolette Budai beat 10th seed Gloria Liang 6-3, 6-4 in an all-Ontario round of 16 match. Budai and Leduc face each other in Wednesday’s quarter-finals.
In doubles, top-seeds Repic and Routliffe of Ontario, the U16 champions advanced to the quarter-finals with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Ontario’s Nancy Baloescu and Victoria Dimuzio on Tuesday. Repic and Routliffe will play Quebec’s Michelle Dandik and Catherine Parenteau-St-Antoine, 6-2, 6-1 Tuesday winners of Ontario’s Megan Blue and Iryna Kostirko.
The second-seeded pair of Elianne Douglas-Miron of Ontario and Quebec’s Kimberley-Ann Surin defeated Francoise Abanda of Quebec and Saroop Dhatt of B.C. 6-1, 6-3 on Tuesday. Douglas-Miron and Surin will play Alberta’s Mikaela Bennett and Jena Cheng in Wednesday’s quarter-finals after Bennett and Cheng defeated B.C.’s Alexis Prokopuik and Vivian Tsui 6-4, 6-2 on Tuesday.
Fourth-seeds Nada Marjanovic of Ontario and Aissa Muamba of Quebec defeated unseeded Emily Bradshaw and Laura MacMullin of Ontario 6-1, 6-2 on Tuesday and will play fifth-seeds Joan Cannon and Amy He of Ontario on Wednesday. He and Cannon defeated Samantha and Nikolette Budai of Ontario 6-2, 6-3 on Tuesday.
Third-seeds Gloria Liang and Solomiya Zinko of Ontario will face Quebec’s Catherine Leduc and Laurence Pelchat in Wednesday’s final quarter-final. Liang and Zinko defeated Ontario’s Kristina Sanjevic and Anastasia Burobina 6-3, 6-1 on Tuesday while Leduc and Pelchat got a walkover.
