The Bear, Davis Cup #5 “Davis Cup Captain Martin Laurendeau”

OC: Marty, first of all congratulations to you and your team on what has happened to date in 2013. ML: Thanks a lot Pierre, this year has been fantastic for our team, twice reaching rounds never before attained and doing so beating higher ranked teams at home to boot, that was icing on the cake. We had a window of opportunities for our guys to grab and they did so convincingly and brilliantly. OC: How have you been preparing for this upcoming gigantic event in Belgrade? The U.S.T.A. spends 15 percent of its money on player development and 70 percent on community tennis development, said Gordon Smith, its chief operating officer… Patrick McEnroe suggested that it would probably take 15 to 20 years to see what the new U.S.T.A. initiatives produce.”

The National Events department works closely with the newly created Competitive Development department which is led by Ari Novick. The main focus of this department is to upgrade the competitive structure across Canada partnering with our Provincial Associations in order to implement the high performance competitive structure recommendations. These recommendations were a result from a comprehensive feedback process where we gathered input from all of our stakeholders across the country.
