Gregory Strong, Canadian Press: “Eugenie Bouchard is ready to arrive as Canada’s newest tennis darling”

Eugenie Bouchard’s days of playing lower-tier events and working through qualifying draws appear to be over. The Canadian tennis player’s first full season on the WTA Tour was a strong one. She has risen to No. 32 in the world rankings and will likely be seeded at the first Grand Slam event of the 2014 season. Bouchard scored some big victories this year and proved she can hang on court with the sport’s elite. Her next mission is to build on that momentum as she looks ahead to next year.

This week's King of the Court is world No 11 Milos Raonic, the Canadian 22-year-old who has won five ATP World Tour titles and finished runner-up to Rafael Nadal in the Rogers Cup Masters event in Montreal in August. Born in Titograd, Yugoslavia (now Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro), Raonic moved to Canada with his family at the age of three and has since become renowned for his massive serve - he hit the second fastest serve of all time on the tour last year at a speed of 155mph.

BBC SPORT: “Michael Downey named as new LTA chief executive”

Canadian Michael Downey has been appointed as chief executive of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).Downey, 56, has been Tennis Canada's president for nine years and succeeds Roger Draper, who leaves in six days. He takes over an organization threatened with a funding cut of £10.3m from Sport England if it fails to increase participation. "I believe there's a bevy of young talent in Great Britain that can follow Andy Murray to the podium," he said.

Tennis Canada President & CEO Michael Downey has informed the Tennis Canada Board of Directors of his decision to resign as President and Chief Executive Officer of Tennis Canada effective December 31, 2013. He will become Chief Executive of the Lawn Tennis Association as of January 6, 2014.

It’s a beautiful fall morning in gloomy Belgrade. Euphoria is in the air. We have a real opportunity on the last day of the Davis Cup semi-finals against the heavy favorite team from Serbia led by the #1 player in the world Novak Djokovic. Today Canada will have a chance to win the tie and ascend to the Finals until the last point is played. What an opportunity to live this improbable experience. What a full day it will be. I have been fortunate to witness many exceptional tennis experiences in my life but this one will rate as one of the greatest ones ever. Can you imagine, we are leading 2-1 on Sunday morning after unbelievable twin wins of 10-8 in the fifth set?
