Dear Members, Players and Parents,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and our team as we launch into a new era of the Ace Tennis Academy at Toronto Tennis City. Since 1978 ACE Tennis, formally All – Canadian has been a leader in tennis development in Canada, in the areas of junior and program development providing competitive opportunities and club management. ACE began operating at its Toronto location in 2010 providing a venue where young players can strive for excellence and adults can play in a competitive social setting. I am excited about the opportunity to lead our programs at Toronto Tennis City this year and we greatly look forward to providing an environment where players of all ages and levels can feel comfortable and maximize their potential.
I am honored to lead a group of highly qualified and committed tennis professionals. My background is as follows: Ranked #3 in Canadian junior tennis, I was Newfoundland, Atlantic and Quebec junior champion in singles and doubles, played #1 for the University of Toronto and was top 20 in Canadian Men’s Open tennis. Founder and former president of ORIZE Sports Management Inc. in Montreal, I hold a Master of Sports Management from Bond University in Australia and am currently completing my Tennis Canada Level 3 certification. I have been the Director of Operations of Ace Tennis for the past 3 years and have helped developed Provincial and National junior champions. I have been a many time Provincial Coach for the Ontario Tennis Association at the Junior Canadian Nationals.
This year we continue to offer programs for players of all ages and levels. I am confident that you will be happy with our revamped junior programs and our rearranged adult programs for the 2013-2014 season.
Our junior programs consist of two separate streams: Progressive and Competitive. Players in our programs can begin as young as 4 years old and as they move along they choose either the Progressive or Competitive stream.
The ACE Progressive stream is for players looking to develop strong fundamentals in the sport which will enable them to play tennis at a good level for life. The competitive stream is for players who are committed to maximizing their development. These players play entry level tournaments all the way up to professional events. This past summer ACE Tennis had over 20 players competing at the junior Nationals in their respective age categories. Here are some notable results from this summer nationals by ACE Toronto Tennis City players:
Maria Patrascu – Girls U16 singles 3rd place, doubles 2nd place – Girls U18 singles 6th place
Sofiya Babych – Girls U12 singles 3rd place, doubles 2nd place
Nifemi Akinbiyi- Girls U12 singles Quarter-finalist, doubles National Champion
Kaela Di Giulio – Currently competing in U14 category
Ryan Zeman will lead our progressive stream this year. Former Director of junior development at Niagara Academy of Tennis and leader of progressive tennis at ORC, Ryan is certified as a Tennis Canada Coach 3 and Club Pro 2. Ryan served as a National touring coach, NTC coach and an assistant course facilitator for Tennis Canada.
Zach Johnson will be our Head Coach of all progressive programs. Zach is returning for his second year at Toronto Tennis City and has experience teaching in both competitive and recreational streams. Zach played on the varsity team at the University of Toronto and currently studies psychology, neuroscience, and Buddhism. He is a Tennis Canada certified Club Pro 1 Professional.
Ekaterina Shulaeva (A.K.A. Katy) will be leading the competitive stream this year. A Tennis Canada Level 3 coach, Katy was ranked as high as #250 WTA, was U16 and U18 Junior Canadian National Champion and was a member of the junior and women’s Federation Cup Team.
Players who register in this stream benefit from tennis training, fitness and player management. We will be using our new management system though LMS which allows coaches to post videos, program content, lesson plans, comments or any information on specific programs and players. This will be accessible by parents, players and all coaches in the academy so that there is a clear understanding of the priorities of the players.
As we have done for years, ACE will provide at least one coach at each of the selections, provincials and nationals events and will look to expand tournament coaching to more events this season. Toronto Tennis City coaches will be more involved in these events more than ever before.
We are proud to announce the launch of our new adult tennis programming.
