Hallelujah

After years of watching American tennis sink into the shadows, the U.S. Tennis Association decided in 2008 to make a bold move: It would open its first-ever full-time training academy for top juniors. The Bear, Davis Cup #5 “Davis Cup Captain Martin Laurendeau”

OC: Marty, first of all congratulations to you and your team on what has happened to date in 2013. ML: Thanks a lot Pierre, this year has been fantastic for our team, twice reaching rounds never before attained and doing so beating higher ranked teams at home to boot, that was icing on the cake. We had a window of opportunities for our guys to grab and they did so convincingly and brilliantly. OC: How have you been preparing for this upcoming gigantic event in Belgrade? ML: This is a big contrast from the first Tie of the year, when it’s scheduled early in the calendar right after the off season and with few opportunities to get a lot of tournaments under their belts. Athletic development is an important key to play successfully at higher levels. There is a ton out there about developing power, speed, strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and agility. For this newsletter, I will just highlight a few key points:

Filip Peliwo, Davis Cup #4: “Canadian rule”

I have been a hitting partner for the Canadian Davis Cup team in the past but I have absolutely no idea at the moment if I’ll have a specific role to play in the semifinals against Serbia in Belgrade. I would expect the team would probably try to keep the same routine and I’ll probably be going as a hitting partner again but I’m not 100 per cent sure what’s happening with that as I haven’t heard from the team yet. We’ll see.
