Soufiane Azargui and Joan Cannon are back from University at ACE Tennis for the holidays. Soufiane is currently in his third year at Brown University in Rhode Island while Joan is in her 2nd year at Princeton University in New Jersey. Craig Mercer caught up with the two of them sitting in the lounge at Cedar Springs after practice and thought that it would be nice to share their conversation for the benefit of aspiring young players.

Sharon Fichman: I definitely feel that I made the right decision. There were definitely times in these last few years when I thought otherwise, as an athlete you face adversity as I have, but where I am right now I feel It was the right decision. I am very happy. It's an experience you have to get through in order to grow - become a better person, a better player, and just gain a lot of understanding and perspective.

Eddie Herr Tour 2012

Ekaterina (Katy) Shulaeva and Mike Hall had the pleasure of taking a team of ACE Tennis players down to Florida to participate in the Eddie Herr International event this past November. The event attracts the world's best junior tennis players from many nations to compete. As a bonus, there are local tournaments known as the "Casely's" for players to participate in prior to the Eddie Herr and after they were eliminated.

Bioenergetics of Tennis and Conditioning

Athletically, tennis is a very complete sport which requires all bioenergetic systems to produce energy. Aerobic, anaerobic lactic, and Anaerobic alactic are involved at approximately the same level. Bioenergetic systems are our mechanisms for converting macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats), which contain chemical energy. It is the breakdown of the chemical bonds in these macronutrients that provides the energy and perform exertion.

Stéphanie Dubois was born in Laval, Quebec. She is 26 years old and is a ball of fire on the court. The 5’4” double-handed backhand players is a hard hitter, always going forward. This past year she reached a career high #87 in singles. She has been a mainstay of the Canadian tennis landscape forever it seems, which is great as she is without a doubt one of the most pleasant players.
