Dissension is not a situation which is usually conducive to achieving success in any venture. So if the present Tennis Canada system does foster dissension we all must agree that a better solution should be found.

How do you develop teamwork amongst competing players? Here is a possible alternative: first you have an objective that everyone can buy into. For example, the objective could be as simple as representing Canada at the highest level of performance in international competition. Every player that is Under 14 that plays competitive tournaments and is committed to a systematic training approach should feel he has a chance, even if it is an outside one of fulfilling his dream. No one should tell him he can’t make it and no one should develop a system that says you are not good enough to reach your dream.

Michael Emmett: “Sportsnet Fumbles London Event”

From what I hear, the match between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the last ATP event of the year was one for the ages. I say that because I didn’t see a point – the match didn’t come onto local airways until 10:27pm. But it could have been shown live at 3pm Toronto time. As a result of poor programming, I had to wait through a boring triple overtime game between the dreadful Toronto Raptors and the Utah Jazz.

We hope you will plan to join us for this unique event for junior players. The event will be the premier challenge for youngsters to compete against players from other countries who are their same age: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.

As you probably know, there was a very positive and productive meeting on Sunday, October 21, with Steve Bellamy and his group concerned with the USTA officials in Chicago about the state of our National ‘n Sectional Junior Schedule and Rankings that led to a pause on the new changes and a listening tour to be held across the country to make revisions that will be fair for all our juniors and that will hopefully bring a smile to everyone’s face.
