Final flights were determined today at the u14 nationals.  Even more exciting was to see the sun make an appearance this afternoon!

Vanessa Wong continued her winning streak after winning the under 12 nationals last week.  Today she defeated the tournaments 5th seed – Marianne Gareau – to book herself a spot in the championship flight and final 8.

Charlotte Petrick, the tournaments top seed cruised through her round robin with ease.  Tomorrow she will play Wong in the quarter finals.

Nikki Carnovale also won all of her round robin matches without much resistance.  Nikki will take on a surprise player, Stacey Fung from BC, who was able to eliminate 2 seeded players on route to the championship flight.

Grace Xu was playing flawless tennis until she met up with the 4th seed, Patricia Muamba.  This was Graces first defeat in the event and will now move to flight #2.

Tina Kreinis had walkover this morning but suffered a tough defeat at the hands of Charlotte Robillard Millet.  Tina will now move on to flight #3.

Christian Lakoseljac had the match of the day playing fellow Ontarian Wills Tutecky.  The winner of this match was to qualify for the championship.  After 3 and a half hours of play, and overcoming some adversity down 53 in the final set, Christian was able to pull off the upset taking the match 76(8), 16, 75.  Christian will now play against Raheel Manji of Ontario in the quarter finals.

Adrian Mag had a tougher day on the courts today.  Adrian suffered a tough 3 set defeat to Kyryll Krevchin earlier in the day knocking him out of the championship flight.  Later on he lost to seeded player Benjamin Sigouin.  Adrian will hope to turn things around in flight 3 tomorrow.

Tomorrow, the boys and girls championship flights will each feature 5 out of the 8 players from Ontario.  Go team!

That’s it for me.  Long days here at the nationals and the lack of sun can make for depressing days sometimes.  Let’s hope our Ontario players keep dominating to keep this tournament exciting!
